The researchers, who combined the American Brain Connection Group and the Bank of England, found that signal synchronization between the outer orbital frontal cortex, wedge lobe and dorsal prefrontal cortex was significantly higher in people with high depression scores.It is these synchronous increases that control the relationship between depression and sleep.
Feng Jianfeng explains one possibility, noting that increased connections between the brain regions may cause the group to experience long-term negative emotions, which may lead to poor sleep quality.
Experts say finding neural circuits linked to both depression and sleep problems could mean providing a new target area for treatment of both psychological problems at the clinical level.By stimulating these brain regions specifically, depression symptoms and sleep problems may be improved.
