When I was a Ph.D. student, I heard the most words about scientific research written by Mr. Wang Guowei: "those who achieve great things in ancient and modern times and those who ask questions from universities must go through three realms." they are: "last night, the west wind withered the green trees, went up the high-rise building alone, and looked at the end of the world", "the belt widened gradually, but I didn't regret it, and I was haggard for myself" and "looking for him thousands of times, suddenly looking back, the man was in the light I'm sorry. These descriptions of Mr. Wang Guowei are appropriate and vivid.

A few days ago, Chen Bin and shanyong respectively published "behind a successful student, there is often a tutor who can push" and "truly excellent students don't need a tutor to push". If we compare the three levels proposed by Mr. Wang Guowei, I personally think that Chen Bin's view is in the first stage of doctor's degree, belonging to the primary level; Shan Yong's view is in the second stage of doctor's degree, belonging to the intermediate level. And the third level is to become a student who can push tutors, which should belong to the advanced stage of doctor, in the highest level.

The first level is pushed by the tutor. For those who are in the initial stage of their Ph.D., they are in the vague period of their lives. Although entering the doctoral stage, they don't know how to start a good research. These students are still in the literature stage. Therefore, the tutor should push them from time to time at this stage. Otherwise, they will feel that they have become a forgotten group. They may lose interest in scientific research or spend their time playing games and playing with things. At this stage, the tutor should not only lead the "apprentices" in, but also supervise their learning attitude and research direction. At the same time, we should arrange appropriate skills training for them, introduce the operation process of relevant equipment, and explain the detection purpose of relevant samples. At this stage, the tutor should ask the students about their progress from time to time and push them forward appropriately.

The second level doesn't need a mentor push. For the intermediate stage of Ph.D., they have mastered certain scientific research skills, read a lot of references, and will make their own experimental scheme. At this stage, what they need most is the tutor's funds, so that they can keep trying all kinds of ideas, and then make a preliminary summary of these ideas. I believe that the vast majority of doctoral students can enter this stage after the initial training. Tutors just need to tell them what they want to do, and doctoral students will be able to understand the meaning. In a few days, they will be able to give them good results, or more results than their tutors expect. The doctoral students who have reached this stage may also be regarded as meeting the graduation requirements of doctoral students. However, I personally think they are only in the second stage, which is still a passive research stage.

For the above two realms, I won't describe them any more. The following focuses on the third realms: being able to actively push tutors. For doctoral students, they usually dare not take the initiative to ask the tutor to do something for themselves. The main reason is that students are usually full of "awe" for their tutors. They usually hope that everything will be well after the tasks assigned by their tutors are completed. There are not many people who "eat the bear's heart and the leopard's gall" and take the initiative to urge their tutors to do something. In fact, doctoral students should always remember the old saying, "crying children have milk to eat." if you are in the senior grade and don't understand it, you can take the initiative to ask your tutor to help you do something. Even if you graduate, your future development will still be very passive. Doctoral students can push their tutors in the following ways. (1) Doctoral students have written academic papers. After the doctoral students hand over the first draft of their academic paper to their tutors, they may return it to you within a few days if they meet a very responsible tutor. On the contrary, if the tutor is very forgetful, in a few days, he may completely forget that you gave him this paper. I've heard that some tutors hold doctoral dissertations in their hands and haven't been able to revise and return them for half a year. If this happens, doctoral students must boldly urge their tutors to give suggestions for revision. (2) Doctoral students have done a good ppt. Now I am more and more reluctant to attend international conferences. The reason is that those famous professors are no longer willing to stand on the podium to make academic reports. At the same time, the quality of PPT made by doctoral students is surprisingly poor. I don't know whether their tutors have seen it. Doctoral students should take the initiative to send the PPT to their tutors, and then urge them to return to you as soon as possible for revision suggestions. (3) Discussion opinions on the experimental results obtained by doctoral students. Many tutors have a habit of asking graduate students for experimental results after they finish their experiments. However, a lot of people just copy them to the computer and don't care about them any more. Doctoral students should take the initiative to ask their tutors' opinions on your experimental results, especially the research problems related to the experiment. Some of them are false. If they are wrong at the beginning, they are likely to be wrong all the time. (4) Arrangement of off campus experiment. There are many doctoral students doing experiments, which may not be completed in the tutor's research group. If they want to finish some experiments off campus, they must urge their tutors to arrange them earlier. Other units are not tutors' own laboratories and can be used at any time. If you miss an opportunity, the next one may be half a year later (N) Doctoral dissertation. Nowadays, it is often reported that some graduate students plagiarize their dissertations. Many people just blame the students for their mistakes, not the tutors for their irresponsibility. They may not check the doctoral dissertations at all. For this one, don't say much. If you don't hurry up, you can only blame yourself for your late graduation.

If a doctoral student knows how to push his tutor to do something before graduation, he will know how to push his students to do things when he takes care of his students after graduation. As a result, a virtuous circle is stronger and stronger from generation to generation.
