At this time, I met another doctor in the research group on the bus. He had just quit his position as a lecturer in a university and returned to Australia to become a postdoctoral. In addition, a teacher from a certain university also left a message for me to ask about going abroad to do postdoctoral work. It's an open world now, and the flow of people is very normal. So, I don't make any comment on their personal choice, but I would like to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of domestic lecturers and foreign postdoctors.

Domestic lecturers? Foreign postdoctoral? It should be something that many doctors who have just graduated for about two years need to think about. At this time, their research experience is not enough and their research achievements need to be increased. However, people at this stage are very thoughtful, passionate and time-consuming, and they all hope to have better development space. It should be said that the attraction of domestic lecturer position and foreign postdoctoral position is similar. When a person gets two positions at the same time, how to choose may lead to two completely different lives.

First of all, talk about the opportunities of domestic lecturers: (1) the lecturers of 985 University, which are better in China, can serve as master's tutors, and some can also become doctoral tutors. Therefore, if you are lucky enough to recruit two students a year, you will have the opportunity to learn how to build and manage a team. Don't underestimate your experience in this field. With the increase of your experience, the improvement of your professional title, and the growth of your team, your previous experience, either failure or success, is very important. (2) As a lecturer, you can apply for some scientific research projects, such as the Provincial Natural Science Foundation of each province, the new teacher fund of the Ministry of education, and the youth fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Although these funds are not successful, the success rate is still very high. Almost everyone of my former colleagues in the university has won the youth fund. (3) The achievements made by lecturers can be regarded as the achievements made by their own independent scientific research. No matter how well a doctoral student or postdoctoral student does, people will basically think it is their tutor's achievement when they evaluate it. Like the Nobel Prize, it's basically for correspondents. On the contrary, lecturers' achievements are basically their own. (4) Have the opportunity to promote the title. If a lecturer does well, he can quickly become an associate professor, or a professor more quickly. Although not everyone can be evaluated smoothly, they can compete when they have the opportunity. (5) I don't have to worry about finding a stable life. In this way, we can at least buy a house, settle down and have children.

Besides, opportunities for foreign postdoctors: (1) foreign postdoctors can concentrate on scientific research. A few years after graduation is the golden age to make achievements. If there is a place to cultivate one's morality and make more achievements, the future academic career will be brilliant. The interpersonal relationship in foreign universities is relatively simple, and there is no need to deal with too many people. For many doctors, their interpersonal skills are relatively weak. Therefore, living in this environment may be more suitable. (2) Foreign postdoctoral students can also apply for some internationally famous scholarships, such as Humboldt scholarship. If they get it, they will benefit almost for life. (3) After a few years of postdoctoral work abroad, if you have a very good performance, you will have a lot more opportunities to return home. Maybe it's possible to get an associate professor's post directly. If it's stronger, it's also possible to get a professor's post directly. (4) It can build a good international relationship network. Now in this society, the cooperation between universities is no longer the mode of cooperation between domestic universities and domestic universities, but the mode of cooperation between domestic universities and foreign universities. Going abroad for a few years, this kind of cooperation is a natural model. (5) Nowadays, many universities require new employees to have overseas work experience when promoting their professional titles. If all conditions are the same, they will have certain advantages when promoting their professional titles.

Finally, we talk about the shortcomings of foreign postdoctoral work: (1) foreign postdoctoral work is not a long-term solution. If there are no achievements for two consecutive years, there is a high probability that there will be no job and no new job. When I was working in Wollongong University, I heard a lot of such stories. When someone first went to work in Australia, he had a three-year job. After three years' work, he couldn't find a new job, so he stayed at home to be a father. (2) Formal teaching posts are shrinking around the world. Not only in countries like the United States and Australia, there are fewer and fewer teaching posts in universities, more and more postdoctoral personnel, and fewer and fewer teaching posts in Chinese universities. Some doctors have been able to get associate professors before going abroad. After returning home, universities may only provide lecturers, or even no longer recruit people in this direction. (3) You may miss applying for the National Nature Fund youth fund. NSFC youth fund is the first pot of gold for domestic researchers. If they can't get it, it's very difficult to apply for general projects of NSFC directly. (4) It takes a long period of adaptation to return home. At the beginning of the article, a doctor of our research group was not well adapted to the domestic universities, so he went abroad again to be a postdoctoral

To sum up, if I am allowed to make my own choice, I suggest giving priority to a good university lecturer position. It's true that success depends entirely on your own energy.
